Ecology  and Taxonomy of non-marine Ostracoda

The studies developed in the laboratory of Macroinvertebrate Ecology (Centre of Research in Limnology, Ichthyology and Aquaculture (Nupélia) of the State University of Maringá (UEM), Brazil) are conducted by researchers, postgraduate and undergraduate students. 

We work on benthic invertebrates and on invertebrates associated with aquatic macrophytes in different ecosystems (floodplains lakes, streams and reservoirs). More in particular, we study taxonomy and ecology of non-marine Ostracoda (Crustacea). We are interested in determining the drivers of (local and/or regional) ostracod community structure. Concerning the taxonomy of Ostracoda, we have found several new genera and new species, which we have described and are still describing.
